Boyfriend Buys My Makeup – Christmas Edition!

It’s a surprise blog post! That’s right, I’m posting on a Wednesday. Don’t worry, Part 2 of my 13 steps to flawless skin will still be up this weekend, but I was spoilt rotten on Monday and I didn’t want to wait until the new year to share it with you (I had already gotten quite excited and used them before taking pictures, whoops!).

Before starting, I’d first of all like to say a huge thank you, as I have just reached 100 followers! I didn’t think I would get there this soon, so thank you very much for all your support so far. Here’s to the next 100!

This year, I just couldn’t decide what I wanted for Christmas. After my adventures during the first day of the Beauty Bay sale, and the fact that everything I had wanted to get sold out, my boyfriend suggested that perhaps “Santa could bring me some makeup for Christmas.” Well, I was never going to say no to that, was I? But rather than just telling him exactly what I wanted, which ruins the surprise, I set him a challenge and gave him a list of brands I wanted to try, and let him loose in the scary world of makeup. Want to find out how he did? Keep reading!

The first brand on the list is Jouer. I’ve been dying to try their lip toppers and highlighters since last year, but hadn’t really been able to justify because it’s more on the pricey side. So imagine the look on my face when I opened these up.

Now I love that my boyfriend got me the primer. I first heard of it watching Thataylaa, and I was intrigued because it contains salycilic acid, which targets spots and blemishes. I just love the fact that he thought about my skin concerns and got something which is designed to help with them. Major boyfriend points there!

Next up is the Essential High Coverage Creme Foundation. Coverage wise, it is beautiful, and once again, picking the lightest shade was a pretty good bet. But I put it on at around 10 on Christmas day, and by the time we had finished lunch late in the afternoon, things were looking very cakey. The consensus on YouTube so far seems to be that it works best when mixed with other products. I tried it out with the Naked Skin foundation today, and things looked more promising! Don’t forget to check out my review on it.

MAC Cosmetics

Moving on to MAC! OK, this is the only product I specifically asked for. I wanted this set from the Snowball collection on Black Friday, but couldn’t quite bring myself to buy that and the Moondust palette. So I just had to tell him I wanted it. You get two pigments and one glitter in a gorgeous rose gold sequin bag, and I love how MAC always throw in a sample too!

Iconic London

Now, this one I was seriously impressed with, because I didn’t actually suggest this brand! Turns out he did his homework and watched multiple reviews to find the perfect products for me, and decided Iconic would be a good bet. He is really racking up those boyfriend points!

First, we have a liquid illuminator. These have been all over the internet this year! You may remember that I purchased two dupes as part of my Black Friday Haul, from Makeup Revolution and Barry M. The plan was (and still is!) to review them, but so far, the impression hasn’t been great. So I am so excited to play with the real deal and finally achieve that chrome glow I’ve been seeing on my Instagram feed!

Next, the contour. Previously, I had only tried one contour kit, from Sleek, and I wasn’t too impressed, so I didn’t feel the need to try another one. I was wrong. This kit is worth the investment. It only takes a little product to achieve perfectly sculpted cheekbones without looking muddy. It’s one of my favourite products so far.

The brush set was very unexpected. When I opened it, I was convinced it was a handbag, until I saw the brand name on it. These are gorgeous, and already very loved as you can tell. They are incredibly soft and blend everything perfectly. My boyfriend actually had no idea I was planning on buying more brushes, and it turns out everything I was after is in this set! It definitely isn’t a basic set (for example, it doesn’t have a flat shader brush), but it has multiple blending brushes, and flat topped and angled face brushes, so I think this is perfect for someone with a more advanced level, looking to expand their collection. Huda Beauty

I have been dying to try Huda Beauty since her liquid lipsticks took over the internet. Alas, I only purchase from Cult Beauty on special occasions (i.e. once, on my birthday this year). So these were a lovely surprise.

The eyeshadow palette is gorgeous. I love the range of colours and finishes; I didn’t really have anything like it in my collection. It’s absolutely tiny which is adorable, but if I were to take it to travel, I would need at least another shadow, as it doesn’t come with anything quite light enough for my brow bone area. That aside, these blend out beautifully, the black is stunning, and I cannot wait to play with them some more! My review is now available if you want to check it out.

And finally, the Trophy Wife lip set. I think this gift set is a fantastic purchase. Inside the tin, you get a lip liner, a mini liquid lipstick, and a mini lip strobe, so you get a chance to sample multiple products. The colour is like nothing else I have in my collection, and the formula is creamy and lightweight. I think I’ll have to go back for more.

So that’s it! Not bad for someone who didn’t know anything about makeup, right? I may have to renew this experiment next year. For science.

If you want to see a look I created using these, head on over to my Instagram, where you’ll also find a full list of products used. Be sure to give me a follow!
